Kazuo Ohno Modern Dance Group Recital | Daiichi Seimei Hall

Kazuo Ohno’s fourth recital, held in 1953. The venue differed from those of the previous three recitals, and the title of the event changed from Gendai Buyō (“Contemporary Dance”) to Modān Dansu (“Modern Dance”). Three group works were presented, and a document believed to have been distributed at the performance, titled “Explanatory Notes,” also survives. A dance review in the Tokyo Shimbun (November 26, 1953) stated: “I’d like to pay respect to his efforts to break away from all conventional dance techniques and to his uniquely original world of dance.”
