The Honeybee’s Song蜜蜂の歌
A solo piece by Kazuo Ohno presented during Part Two of the Third Kazuo Ohno Modern Dance Recital, which took place in November 1951. The program includes the line: “Wherever he passed, everything became a picture / Crossing thickets and grapevines, one hears the song of honeybees.” Although not a stage photograph, a single image of the work survives.
The program indicates that music by Chopin was used, suggesting the possibility that Étude Op. 25, No. 2 (commonly known as “The Bees”) may have been selected. In his later butoh performances, Ohno frequently danced to Chopin’s Études, including Op. 25, No. 1 and Op. 10, Nos. 9 and 10.
