Admiring La Argentina | Poirel Room

Kazuo Ohno was invited to the 14th Internatinal Theatre Festival in Nancy which was his first recital abroad and he was then 73 years old. Admiring La Argentina was performed 4 time during the festival along with Ozen, or A Table in which Kazuo danced with his students at his studio.

Reiko Sawa, who joined the tour and was in charge of lighting discribes the Poirel Room as this: Salle Poirel is an old theatre constructed some 100 years ago near Nancy station. Usually, it is used as a concert hall. It is a beautiful theatre with a canopy ornamented with stained glass and a gigantic pipe organ on stage. She recalls applause was like a thunder on the first day, Kazuo was called back on stage several times and audience stayed in the theatre here and there so that they could greet Kazuo. (From "Kazuo Ohno who returned to Erurope" in Dance Work vol.28)

Sankaijuku and Pina Baush also attended the same festival. Daniel Schmidt, a film director with whom Kazuo became good friends afterwards, saw Admiring La Argentina and became to hope that he would make a film on him someday. German film director Werner Schroeter, who made a documentary film Die Generalprobe on the festival, dedicated the film to Kazuo Ohno.
