Mitsuo Ikeda池田光夫

Bandoneon player and leader of the tango band Mitsuo Ikeda and Los Amigos. In 1977, he played the bandoneon for Kazuo Ohno’s ‘Admiring La Argentina’. He also took part in Kazuo’s debut tour in Europe in 1980.

Short Biography

1927 Born in Arakawa (Tokyo). As a child he enjoyed swimming in the Arakawa River and playing harmonica

1948 Started playing the bandoneon

1950 Began work as a professional bandoneon player

1953 Became the maestro for Orquesta Tipica NHK

1974 Established Mitsuo Ikeda and Los Amigos

1977 Played the bandoneon for Kazuo Ohno’s ‘Admiring La Argentina’ in Tokyo

1980 Joined Kazuo Ohno on his international tour and played the bandoneon for ‘Admiring La Argentina’ at the World Theatre Festival in Nancy

1985 Performed for Kazuo Ohno’s ‘Admiring La Argentina’ at the Butoh Festival ’85

    Invited and performed with Argentine pianist José Colángelo, for which he was awarded the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Art Festival Award

1994 Performed with a full orchestra for the Second Kazuo Ohno Retrospective

1996 Released his CD ‘Mitsuo Ikeda and Los Amigos: Gorgeous Tangos’, for which he did everything from producing, designing the sleeve, and sound mastering

2002 Passed away on 13 June, aged 75.
