Etsuko Ohno
Yoshito Ohno’s wife. She was in charge of costumes for both Kazuo and Yoshito Ohno. Much of Etsuko Ohno’s private wardrobe later became performance costumes.
Yoshito Ohno (1938~2020)
Second son to Kazuo Ohno, he began studying modern dance with his father during junior high school. His first performance debut was in Kazuo Ohno's The Old Man and the Sea. A month later he performed the role of the boy in Tatsumi Hijikata's Kinjiki, which became known as the first Butoh performance, and appeared in many of Hijikata's pieces throughout the 1960s. After a 16 year break from performing, he returned to the stage in 1985. Following Tatsumi Hijikata's death in 1986, he directed all of Kazuo Ohno's works. He later took charge of the Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio, and continued to perform and hold workshops all over the world after Kazuo's passing.
Water Lillies (1987)
The first performance with Kazuo Ohno directed by Yoshito Ohno in the wake of Tatsumi Hijikata's death. A duet with Kazuo and Yoshito Ohno inspired by Claude Monet's Water Lillies series, it premiered at the Theater der Welt festival in Stuttgart in 1987 before appearing in Japan at "Yameru Maihime" ("The Sick Dancer"), a memorial event for Tatsumi Hijikata at the Ginza Saison Theatre. It was performed, with alterations, 87 times until 1997.
