Admiring La Argentina | Daiichi Seimei Hall (Premiere)

The premiere of Admiring La Argentina. Since 1959, Kazuo Ohno hadn't created any stage work himself while he made some guest appearances in others' performances including Hijikata's. From 1969 to 1976, Kazuo was making 3 films (Mr. O's trilogy) together with film director Chiaki Nagano and rarely appeared on stage. Finally in 1977, when he held his own recital with this Admiring La Argentina, 18 years had passed since his last recital. And this perfromance was to make a legend.

In 1976, Kazuo Ohno saw one abstract tableau at Natsuyuki Nakanishi solo exhibition and all of a sudden he saw La Argentina in it. Kazuo saw La Argentina performed in Tokyo Imperial Theatre in 1929. Kazuo was certain that La Argentina invited him to dance together, and he began to create this piece.

In the beginning, Kazuo was preparing group performance with his students at the Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio, but it became his solo piece after Tatsumi Hijikata joined as a director.
