Hijikata Sansho
About Hijikata Sansho
Hijikata Sansho is a dance that was performed by Yoshito Ohno for many years, ever since it was choreographed by Tatsumi Hijikata in 1985. With the aim of archiving it, not only for the study of early Butoh, but as a historically important work in itself, Yoshito Ohno taught this performance to Sankai Juku dancer Dai Matsuoka. The work was perfected and took on a new form. Although Dai Matsuoka also works as a main dancer for Sankai Juku, the timeless collaboration between one of the founders, and a living legend of Butoh can be felt through this performance.
