This work was inspired by the poem collection ’The Weary Blues’ by Langston Hughes, which was published in Japanese in 1958 under the title ’The Negro and the River’. The Japanese title comes from one of the poems, ’The Negro Speaks of Rivers’, which was translated into Japanese as 'The Negro and the River' ('Niguro to Kawa').
