Kenichiro Aita会田健一郎

A photographer and ceramic artist from Fukushima City. After working as a reporter and director for Fukushima Central Television and running a jazz café, he became active as a freelance photographer. The “Gallery K” he opened in Fukushima City attracted many artists and performers, and he was also involved in organizing butoh-related events and directing performance works by Ito Tari. While deepening his friendships with photographers such as Daido Moriyama and Kiyoshi Suzuki and pursuing his own unique mode of expression, his life was cut short at the age of 47.

1969 Left the Tokyo College of Photography before graduation

1970–1979 Worked in the News Department of Fukushima Central Television

1979–1984 Ran a jazz café in Fukushima City

1984 Began working as a freelance photographer

1986 Contributed photographs to the programme for Kazuo Ohno’s performance in Fukushima

1987 Opened Gallery K

1988 Published the essay collection "[skræp]" (Scrap) (Sho-shi Sai)

1989  In May, collaborated photographically on Ito Tari’s "Cosmos of Epidermis" at Tokyo Terpsichore    

   In June, published "Kenichiro Aita Photobook: How-Sun No Chi" (Seikyusha)

1995 Passed away
